The Grendel set-up is pretty similar in style and layout - but there are a few differences.

Here is the link for anyone interested in the Grendel set-up.

The Grendal stuff looks stunning. I wish they came pre-painted.

I have 5 Miniature Building Authority (MBA) Buildings and their quality is top notch. The boxes, while not having as good a quailty of styro-foam that DF has still preserve them well. Some of their assessories are great with Master Maze such as the crates, barrels, tables with food, and small boat.

I think that InvicibleOverlord has a bunch of their buildings if I remember right.

My motto has been, below ground, Dwarven Forge Rules, for above, MBA. I'm hoping DF changes that someday soon. :)

DaggerdaleDM, Please don't take this wrong, but I hope you're wrong.

DF does a fantastic job with underground/interior pieces SPECIFICALLY because they concentrate their efforts there; they do NOT try to compete in someone else's backyard.

Armorcast does Certified #1 Grade A Primo structure kits. They are also relatively easy to customize with extra floors, interior walls, etc. I know, I've done it - and survived to brag about it.
Pegasus Hobbies and, now I know, MBA are EXCELLENT ready-to-go structures. Incredibly beautiful buildings.

WHY WOULD STEFAN AND JEFF TRY TO EXPAND INTO AN ALREADY SATISFIED MARKET? Just to 'try' to unseat 2 companies who are already at the pinnacle of accomplishment?

Please.

Give Jeff Martin SOME credit for business sense. He would be a DAMNED FOOL to pit DF's limited funding against an ESTABLISHED business, in an endangered hope to steal customers from them. Especially when he would be doing so at the risk of either alienating current DF customers who are loyal to their outdoor suppliers as well as to their "prime contractor" for interior/underground work.

WHY do you think DF has stopped producing, and is unloading as fast as possible, their excellent line of prepainted miniatures? Because WotC does excellent prepainted D&D and SW minis, and Reaper has picked up the slack where Ral Partha dropped off the face of the earth on unpainted ones!

Jeff KNOWS, you do NOT pick a fight with Rocky Balboa, when you look like a 98-lb. weakling! And, sorry Jeff, but in comparison to WotC, Reaper, etc., DF IS a 98-pounder in the miniatures department. NOT because Stefan & Co. don't make GOOD minis, because they DID, but because the marketing, production, and distibution strength isn't there. And you know it; that's why you stopped it, right?
By the same token, they have pretty much stopped the accessories, because Grendel, Ainsty, and others are doing an excellent job; why pit ONE mouse against multiple cats? Even Mighty Mouse?

Jeff, Stefan, please don't take any of this diatribe as criticism of Dwarven Forge; you've shown common sense, which is frequently among the absent in gaming business, because, let's face it, most of us want to play games, not run businesses. And business is cutthroat, even in the best of times - which these are decidedly NOT.

On other notes, here's a wish for everyone at Dwarven Forge, and in ALL the forums, for a Happy and Prosperous New Year!

I agree, but of course I also love the idea of DF taking that Charles Atlas course and coming back to be King of the Beach! ;)

With things as they are now, I think DF has hit upon a good business model for the short term. With the small tweak of making "limited" but not "one-time-only" runs on things, I think this could build up some capital and, more importantly, raise their profile.

Ideally, the limit imposed by direct-only sales will be outweighed by the higher profile arising from the sheer number of new products. Back in the day, the slow release sched (and sporadic timing) kept a LOT of people at bay.

I'm hoping that for every potential newbie who says "I don't want to order direct, I only buy what my local store carries" there will be 5 who say "I will do whatever I have to to get that new Cavernous Lake or Tavern set." People order from Amazon, they can order from DF's site.

After DF enlarges its product catalogue sufficiently (Cavern, Fantasy, AND SF) and builds up a solid rep as a company with a regular stream of cool product and reliable service, with prices kept as reasonable as possible by going direct, then maybe they can generate interest in investors, expand a bit, and start to grow into the new Reaper or MBA.

Just a fantasy, perhaps, but there you go. If fantasy isn't welcome here, what are we doing with our time? ;)

i have to say that jk has a good point here. but with us having so many roompieces it would be a shame not to use them for above ground rooms. i do not mean building whole towns, although this would be cool, but with some windows and some more doors you could build any basic house.

I have some windows (from warhammer etc.) painted them and glued them on pedestals. if i put them next to a half wall you can build some pretty nice rooms with windows. for standard houses i made made some cardboard roofs and have some thin pieces of wood to place a second floor on.

i also have some resin houses (conflix has some very nice & very cheap -15€ each and prepainted!!!!)and some home made things but if it comes to inhouse action i use my df stuff, with windows and some furniture.

do not get me wrong i would love to have everything mba etc. has to offer and finally build my own village (my dream since i was a kid) but i have to wait a "few" more days untill i get rich....but untill then and maybe even afterwards i am very happy with my df rooms.

(and i would be much happier if df would produce some walls with windows - i even think a small set with some windows and some new doors would sell very good. ? )
