TOPIC: Year of Sci-Fi

Year of Sci-Fi 8 Years ago
Of course Jim, I want items to be released that will allow Dwarven Forge to maintain itself and hopefully grow further.
If unsuccessful releases kill Dwarven Forge, that leaves all of us out in the cold including myself.
"Cutting off one's nose to spite one's face" is never a wise strategy either way.

On the other hand Jim, if one takes the time to do all of the reading, which I have done, there is a goodly amount of gamers here on the Forums that want a great deal more for the Science Fiction Master Maze terrain system.
Granted, it can be spread around a slight bit in the forums, but the desire for more is consistently shown, even in areas of the forum not set up for the Science Fiction Master Maze terrain system.

Jim, Caverns Master Maze needs to take a chill pill until early 2008.
Why?
The Mystery Master Maze needs a WE style set for it in 2007.
(Oops, I had to go back and put in "Mystery" because I had actually put in the type of Master Maze the set was in my original typing of the posting - hurry up with the official news DF)
DoE may need an expansion as well.
The re-introduction of Fantasy Narrows MM014 should happen and I think will make a serious splash for the Fantasy Master Maze folks and for others just buying it to support multi-level builds.
The introduction of an alternative Fantasy Narrows set might also be in order, both for additional pieces and for multi-level set-up support.
The rest of 2007's releases really should be Science Fiction Master Maze sets.

Cavern Master Maze fans moaned and groaned for water releases for years and 2006 was their year.
Science Fiction Master Maze fans have transmitted in repeatedly over the last three years about items they have wanted to help complete their playing experience so why not give them the lion's share of 2007?

Fantasy players are already in the clover and Cavern & DoE folks will be set up solidly with the releases in 2006.
Science Fiction Master Maze did get the long-awaited Beta set, but we do not have a self-supporting terrain system yet.
The three serious releases, Gamma set or sets (furnishings), Delta double layer set (advanced builder combined with narrows) and Epsilon (trap, battle-damage, additional intact pieces), may get the Science Fiction Master Maze system to its needed level to achieve viability.

Another reason I am promoting a push in 2007 of Science Fiction Master Maze is that I hear so often from a decent number of gamers that if Dwarven Forge had a viable SF terrain system, they would buy in.
With the release of Beta, I saw a few gamers get more positive, but I still heard complaints about near-non-existent and/or extremely slow releases and a lack of confidence in Dwarven Forge's continuing support of Science Fiction Master Maze based off of their 2004-2006 track record.
Let me show y'all what these gamers see as far as Dwarven Forge and its attitude towards Science Fiction Master Maze:
DF announces in April 2004 that SF Starter and Passages are due out in May 2004;
Actual release early July 2004.

DF announces in April 2004 that there will be two additional SF MM sets released concurrently in November 2004.
August 2004 DF downsizes the November 2004 release to one set - Alpha and moves up release to October 2004.
Actual release of Alpha Set was in mid-to-late October, but minus its companion set.

DF announces that Beta will be released November 2004
Beta is removed back to May 2005.
Then Beta is pushed back to October 2005, but increased in size.
Beta is finally released March 2006.
This delay resulted in no Science Fiction Master Maze releases for 2005.

Those delays have been disappointing for much of the Science Fiction community that is interested, even in slightest degree, in SF terrain from Dwarven Forge and has resulted in, from what I have heard and seen, a lack of faith in Dwarven Forge and its commitment to Science Fiction Master Maze.
Two-to-Three decent sized releases in 2007 will do away with this observed faithlessness in Dwarven Forge and generate some serious excitement in the SF community for Dwarven Forge's Master Maze.

On the dark side, there are some gamers that are so fanatically fantasy and anti-science fiction, even here on the DF forums, all or even one will be not named, that they will say anything they can, including negative innuendos, to have DF not do anything further with the Science Fiction Master Maze system.
I think such comments are really cheap where/when ever they pop up.
Unfortunately, they are an excellent example of jackattack's observation of cheap people who like "X" so ridiculously much that they must hate "Y" and be loud about it to be happy.

I simply feel that Fantasy Master Maze has had its heyday; I believe Science Fiction Master Maze should be allowed its chance at viable parity so it too, can be a successful terrain system.

arsthein;

I'm replacing a 10-year-old Heat Pump tomorrow, with a $5500 price tag and 5 years of financing.
Wanna swap bills? I'll buy you your DF if you'll buy me my Heat Pump?
Then again, maybe not.

see ya!

Jim

Oh, man, I would really swap your 5500$ financed in 5 years if you pay my new house, financed in 35 years, that takes more than half my payment right now every month... and, of course, 3 sets with shipping and taxes... I would buy you 2 heart Pumps... ;-)

arsthein -

HEAT; HEAT! not HEART - I'm not dead (yet). Although some people keep telling me that if I don't stop picking on people who can't get to me to fight back, Chthulhu or someone else nasty WILL come collect me one night.

Well, I've got 19 years left on a 30-year mortgage, that currently takes $950 per month. PLUS two cars, plus a credit card or two (or so), etc., etc., etc.

My biggest complaint about the $5500/5 years is that with the interest rate, that $5500 turns out to be almost $7200. And I didn't even get kissed (except by Sandy, because she was so happy the thing was getting fixed!).

Never mind, we could swap sob stories all day about bills, and both of us, plus anyone else who gets into it, would swear that our bills are the worst. And we'd all be right.

Anyway, it's 7:28 AM here, the workday is about to start, and Jeff is waiting for my order.

See ya!

Oh! Oh! Jim,

the great Cthulhu might not like it to be misspelled ... :D

And Jim, arsthein don't wory:
I am also almost broke for this year (not only due to DF, I also did some other costly investments), I presumably have to wait with the mystery set and even the DoE WA until next year. I hope that Stefan and Jeff might manage to find a ÔéČuropean distributor until then.

Fingers crossed, LoneStarr; Fingers crossed - but only ONE PAIR per person, or the net result is a jinx on ALL of us!

In other matters, any news on Sci-Fi, River, or Lake pics? Mine didn't turn out as well as I hoped; the focus was off, then the A/C packed it in (with 90 degree-plus temps! OUCH!!) and I didn't get back to it yet. So my TS stuff isn't working all the way, yet. I also have to check in with pfworks and see if they got the drawings up yet for rivers; the lake set and the sci-fi sets are all done.

See ya!

jack;

I had to go back and read my post to figure out what you were talking about.
Not to worry, because unless BGE is REALLY screwing around with me, they are at the house as we type, pulling the old one out and installing the new one.
If not, Sandy (MY She Who Must Be Obeyed) has threatened to go hunting with a dull axe (they hurt more) for the salesman; she's already PI$$ED off about the Freon fable! When she gets in a mood like this, I avoid her!

See ya!

I too vote for a year of Sci Fi. Only because I don't collect Sci Fi DF and I want a break of new stuff so I can catch up buying (ie saving enough money for) all the old Fantasy and cavern stuff I want.

Well, getting back to the first section of the post, if we were to have a year of sci fi that would suit me fine. I've been thinking also that a floor set would be nice or maybe just added here or there in the sets coming out. The Fantasy Floor Set was great and I am wondering if maybe some low walls or somewhat thick raised floors that have two sides like the upcoming DOEWA set. This may give characters the ability to jump over or go down into. Maybe more removable floor coverings and the removable floor for passages? Maybe make them a little more useful to have official backs for them as has been mentioned many times before.
