Your GW vampires have some very nice details. The shading on the muscles and the lines on the wings are amazing. Surely you didn't achieve that kind of detail with just dry brushing and inks did you? It looks like you did some fine line shading.
Thank you jgardner44! :)
I'm actually very proud of this because these were the first minis where I tried my new airbrush after seeing what amazing stuff can be done with it on other painting blogs.

But the wings are the only thing that were not done with my "usual" techniques. Which means leathery basecoat for the skin color, black for the hair. The skin was then drybrushed with the same leathery color mixed with a bit of white and the black hair was drybrushed with pure white. Then I painted the eyes and everything was then inked. At the end I did go over some parts (like the muscles or the edges on the ears) that should be a bit brighter because of how the the light normally would shine on it. This last step typically involves one to three different lighter colors and I use them with a lot of water so that the effect is smoother (I hope that explained it correctly, the language barrier is not helping me right now).

What airbrush did you use? I've been interested in finding a good one on the market for very fine detail work. I'm holding out though since I'm not sure which one would be best.

What company makes that wyvern your aspiring to paint that well? The model looks pretty cool for use in a DF ruins setting with the monsters nest :).
That is the really awesome Typhaggahw from Maelstrom Games. They make awesome miniatures but I think in some cases they choose the names for their minis by blindly hitting the keyboard several times and then just go with it. ;)

When I can I'll take some pictures of my current work if you guys promise not to laugh.
Please do! And no one will laugh, you can be sure of that. We all started somewhere. This forum is THE BEST. It just is. I would never take so much of my time and explain so much or go in the details for another forum. But these guys here, they are really cool and supporting. :)

I bought a Badger Renegade Krome RK-1 Detail Airbrush.

I just checked my blog and I bought this baby almost a year ago. That would be around that time when I first decided to become better at painting before my work stress exploded and I completely forgot about that. How time flies.
Anyway this is an awesome airbrush. I think. I'm not really in any positions to evaluate if i's good because I'm such a noob at airbrushing but I have the impression it is a good one. I bought after reading about it and this video from Lester Bursley (who is soooo awesome at painting with an airbrush):

I hope this helps you decide. :)

Nice set-up, beautiful minis and scenery! I need a ruins set. And to start trying my hand at painting minis. And a place to do it. And time. NY's powerball jackpot is over $200 million. I'm gonna go get myself a ticket. BRB...

Thank you granpappy77! :)

I need a ruins set.
And I need another one. And one of the (insert every name of every set Dwarven Forge ever made and is going to make) set. No, make that two. Or three. Dozen. Two or three dozen.

And to start trying my hand at painting minis. And a place to do it.
I remember painting my first ministures in the tiny (so tiny!) dorm room of my girlfriend. There was no room for an extra table and she was studying on her computer so I build myself a table using books and stuff. This will always be one of my favorite "back in the day when I started painting" memories.

And time.
I hear ya.

Make that two, OK? :)

Kronos, great set ups and paint jobs. Could you share what inks you use in painting those vampires?
