Agreed cracking builds jgt4242 just shows you don't need an actual Castle to get that castle look and feel.

Agree with the sentiment that to play in castles you don't need an awful lot of castle - especially if you reuse the parts for different areas of your castle internals.

I got my castle for use in war gaming so having a complete castle was important to me. But to play in a castle where you play mostly in the insides, then not using castle pieces but KS1 or KS3 can be more practical to model the internals.

Something that maybe worth considering is double thick walls, as they will give you more internal wall room to play in

Here are some exemple of what can be done with KS1, CBS and Roof Platform.
May not look as great as some of the castles using KS4 you will see, but if you already have some KS1 and CBS in hand that will save you a lot on money. For me KS4 Gorgonite lego feeling is just not worth the money. There's many great add-on in KS4 and the mountains are damn great, but I really don't like the feeling of those walls and round towers.

Please note than those picture are nothing optimal and only quick build. At most they use two hamlets sets (out of four I have) from CBS. Some were only quick test too so with a plan in head I could push that way farther. I also don't have lot of crenellations or Narrow Passage walls. The only Gorgonite pieces I made an exception for are the Roof Platforms...those are way too good to build upward with about any pieces right from KS1 to KS5.
Awesome builds jgt4242! They look great, and have some great ideas in there!

I am not sure if large round crenellations are going to be part of the soonest coming restock. I would check with DF before planning for that. Though I am sure they would be restocked soon afterward at some point.

Since the Watchtower comes with large round battlements, you may want to get the large round crenellation set to give it an alternate look. It looks like the Ramparts and their associated crenellation set are going to be part of the January restock, too.

Hi Pizzabagel, welcome to the Forum.
I only bought towers and crenelations last KS and added some things for my City Builder System.
Here is a link to some pictures of things you can do without the actual castle walls. You might have missed these if you were not a forum lurker for a time. viewtopic.php?f=13&t=8608
I would suggest some smaller crenns too, if possible. The conical roof and cathedral roofs are very nice also. ;)

Thank you very much for the advice. Based on these tips I'm going to try ordering a Watchtower, a Hamlet Set, the Battlement add ons and a Rooftop Platform set. I hate to miss out on a giant KS IV castle, and I may never have the chance again, but I'm hoping these pieces will offer a lot more multi-use.

Yup, KS3 stone is quite versatile, especially with arrowslit and arch window walls, as long as you don't mind being limited to square towers. That's why Watchtower pack from KS4 is so good.
