lol! What I should have negotiated was getting a free set of anything I prototyped.

The scary thing is it cost me $1000 in shipping alone. I decided to have it delivered to my door this time instead of driving across the border.
WOW! Why, Josh? That's a heckuva penalty.

I'd get taxed on it, anyways, coming across the border. $7500 x 13%... drum roll, please.... $847.

I've gone over the border every other time... I wanted to get it delivered straight to my door this time. Since I worked very specifically for it, I figured, 'why the hell not?' this time :-)

I get prepainted for a few reasons:

•I'm slow at painting
•If I ever want to sell a set, people are more willing to buy a factory-painted set instead of a custom painted one, unless it's a certain flavor. (ie: underdark, sandstone, etc. Not dungeons)
•If I ever want to expand my collection it's easier to just buy a prepainted set and *poof* my sets are expanded and look the same.
•I feel the lacquer paint from the factory holds better on the pieces than acrylic. I can scratch acrylic off if I try, I can't with the lacquer.

Downsides:

•DF colors have been inconsistent since KS3. Same with dwarvenite color.
•They cost more so I get less for my money.

I don't think I ever posted my pledge:
Do you have a reason or thought process for going painted and unpainted?
I know you directed this at Josh, but I"ll offer an idea.

I get unpainted b/c my players help paint. When we did the Dungeion KS, we got my entire order painted in 8 hours...and the players wanted to spend MORE time doing more detailed work!!

Yes, I had to pay for food and drink for 13 people for a day and a night, but that was a tiny fraction of the cost of buying painted. And we had a ball doing it. Now the players will say, 'You can't bust that door down, that's MY door!!" (a lot of players painted individual doors in fancy colors).

Sooo...my pitch to the players for painting is: Its fun, we have a blast-You get fancy eats and socializing with your friends, including across all 4 campaigns I run-And you get much fancier sets in future!

I realize I was going for a much smaller footprint for my castle than some people who wanted "big" castle builds. Even though my spending level could have supported a bigger castle build direction. Instead, 3/4 of my spending went into add-ons and not the main pledge categories. Although I ended up adding a bunch of wall packs during the pre-sale, but mostly for a wall backdrop in city builds. Modularity, modularity, modularity...

Here is my pledge including pre-sale items:
1x Count's Castle - Painted
1x Sorcerer's Sanctum - Painted
1x Watchtower - Painted
4x Cube Spacer Pack - Painted
2x Modular Wall of Doom - Painted
1x Batter Base Large Tower - Painted
2x Small Tower Batter Base - Painted
2x Small Tower Breakout for Count's Castle - Painted
1x Small Tower Roofs Pack - Painted
1x Large Tower Roofs Pack - Painted
2x Cathedral Roof - Painted
1x Square Roof Platform Pack - Painted
1x 8x8 Floors - Painted
2x Corner Battlements - Painted
1x Manual Drawbridge Upgrade - Painted
4x Stone Bridge Pack - Painted
2x Tower Bridge - Painted
1x Large Tower Balcony & Bridge Base - Painted
1x Small Tower Balcony & Bridge Base - Painted
1x Square Tower Balcony & Bridge Base - Painted
2x Big Buttress Pack - Painted
1x Ruined Wall - Painted
1x Ruined Large Tower - Painted
1x Alley Intersections - Painted
2x Arch Walls - Painted
2x Stone Advanced Builder Set - Painted
2x Square Castle Tower - Painted
1x Erinthor Mountains - Painted
1x Mountain Cliff Pack - Painted
1x Mountain Peak Pack - Painted

I didn't get a trebuchet, but only because I already had the LOTR Trebuchets, Catapults, etc. I once built a 6' tall trebuchet - it was so cool and dangerous!

I love how everyone's pledge is so different. It seems like almost no to pledges we're alike. Everyone had such different plans in mind. It is going to be fun to see what everyone builds.

I had to get the Trebuchet. That was just such a bat $#!+ crazy piece made out of real wood I had to have it. Did anyone get one yet? I want to see how it turned out.
Go to castle builds postings, page 6. Dolken has one sitting in a huge castle build that is pretty sweet.

Here is mine - all painted and selected to integrate with a lot of CBS to build English / Scottish style castles:

• Royal Stronghold
• Grand Citadel
• Citadel / Grand Citadel Inside Wall Pack
• Motorized Drawbridge Upgrade
• 2x Cutout Corner Wall
• Modular Wall of Doom
• 3x Batter Base Large Tower
• 2x Battlement Transitions
• Large Tower Roofs Pack
• Cathedral Roof
• Stone Bridge Pack
• Tower Bridge
• Large Tower Balcony & Bridge Base
• 3x Stone Advanced Builder Set
• Arch Walls – Painted
• 2x Ruined Wall
• Ruined Large Tower
• LED Illuminated Floor
• LED Castle Assortment
• Runic Theme Wall Pack
• Runic Theme LED Pack
• Alley Intersections
• Castle Defenders

As soon as the shop opens, I plan to add some more tower crenellations, buttresses, and other tidbits that I figured out well past the pledge manager.

For the present it remains a "dream castle" at least until UPS arrives. :D

For me I mostly do painted on decor pieces. Painting small individual pieces takes me more time and thought. Some are fun like last years lion on a pedestal, but some just take me a long time to get around to painting. I can fly though painting a bunch of stone walls because I just come up with a process (I have refined my process on stone walls a lot over KS1,and 3) and repeat it. Also if I ever get the minis I will get painted because I have so many Bones minis still to paint.
