As a stand alone set, Woodlands is hard to use. Too specific, doesn't align as cleanly as dungeon sets, harder to stack. But paired with the resin caverns line, wow!! Fantastic results. Just look at some of Feymous or Law's setups. Here's a few pics of a setup I did with that combo.
Don't write off Woodlands, a beautiful set.

Oh man, modding resin? I guess you could do it with a belt or disc sander, that's how the bottoms are leveled at the factory. And then repaint. Talk about a nervewracking procedure, though.

I've thought about picking up a Woodlands set to use for small gardens with City Builder - does the misalignment become noticeable or problematic with a build as small as say, 8x8? Or only when you're trying to build a dungeon sized layout?

wait a minute...

Law is short for Lawrence?

How did i not know this?

Here all this time i have pictured Law as this polished plate mail paladin of Dwarven Forge, zealously pursuing the unholy and championing the cause of incredible setups!

I'm sticking with my original vision. Larry, the guy who likes Dwarven Forge doesn't have the same mystique.

If you end up hacking the pieces to make them work better, pacarat, please post instructions and the results!

I just bought several of these two months ago.

Pieces dont line up because of several factors:

--- Tree trunks extend beyond the 2" square boundary down at base level

--- leafy tops extend beyond vertical boundary of 2" square at the side edges

--- some of the floor tiles are not exactly 2" square

Great sculpts, very creative - just poor execution and integration with other pieces in the set

I'm looking to address this in a couple of ways:

-- Sculpt some intermediary pieces that will allow for the overhangs

-- Get my dremel out and grind back the edges that overhang/interfere - in essence bash to fit, paint to match

And yes it is annoying. :-)

I have heard of a few problems with the Woodland set but even more posts of love for the set.

I would suggest if you can post pics of your set as a whole and showing its problems and defects, perhaps other owners could tell you if you got a particularly bad set.

Woodland Set - what happened??

Post by DrGilgamesh » Sun May 03, 2015 10:49 am

I'm sure this has been kicked around as a topic before, but I haven't been able to find a precise blow-by-blow account: what the hell happened with the Woodland set? Why do so many pieces in this set not line up? The detail is great, but as whole, the set doesn't work.

I've been frustrated by this set many times before, but recently I almost put it away and changed an adventure plan just to not have to tinker with the thing. So where exactly did things go wrong with this?
