I keep having problems getting in and staying in, but Johanna is very patient ;)

still trying to get a warm fuzzy for the new forums - gotta figure my way around - with the old forum everytime i landed i could just click all the highlighted stuff - that doesn;t seem to be happening now (but i have also been on almost exclusively as a guest due to log in issues) i need to look at my settings and just get used to our new home

spam has got to go - i never minded typing the code

The code required to post stops most spambots cold.

I think we should go back to the number required to post. It was not so bad, and there was a lot less spam.

Peter Bup.

This guy has made it near impossible to read any of the posts. I'm going to call it quits for today. I really don't want to sift through his ads.

Anything to fix the situation is at least some iota of good at this time. Even wack-a-mole as previously mentioned. I do not envy your job.

So a user named Peter Bup joins today and posts the same online pharmacy ad in thirty places. Perhaps a limit on the number of posts a new user can make per day? Or a way for a user to be put in purgatory after three down votes? Dunno what the solution is but the lack of spam control is seriously interfering with. My ability to enjoy the site during the short amount of time I have to do it.

I realise it is a "wack a mole" solution, but could the admin hand out some tempory spam batts (limited mod powers) to the forum members.

This could help until there is a better system in place.

BTW, what's with the draconian restrictions on Avatars? 75x75 6Kb max? Is that just preliminary or is that the intended end goal?

Just seems awful restrictive to me. :?

I cannot tell if someone is commenting under the name Guest, or if guests can now make comments. If guests can make comments we are in for a world of spam.

We are working on tightening up the system to prevent SPAM. I appreciate the input, really do.

What about captcha to make an account? That way it requires manual intervention to spam without captcha for every post. I'm not sure if that would be enough, but it would at least cut out the pure bots.
