I have been toying with the idea of building some framed sliding trays that would be somewhat similar to plexiglass pics above in that they would house multiple levels, but not fixed in place. These would be designed to allow any of the middle "levels" to slide out and away (left or right) so as to be accessible from above.

Basically a set of drawers with no outer shell, but with long slides that would support terrain weight and x-axis extension.

Shabby ASCII art follows, where - is tray, and . is spacer (for visual alignment only):

|-----|
|-----|
|-----|
|-----|

|-----|
.....|-----|
|-----|
|-----|

...........|-----|
.....|-----|
..................|-----|
...........|------|

Would probably be on order of 3' deep by 6-8' wide. Top level would remain fixed, possibly bottom as well. Then two or three layers in between would do the sliding. That would allow 2nd floor, ground floor, sewer/dungeon, and dungeon/cavern levels.

Total height of this contraption would depend on # of levels and suitable height of each expected type of level.

As figures transit levels the trays can be slid out for access.

Thoughts?

Law did a few layouts with the City Builder over some catacombs and sewers -

These look awesome, almost beyond words, but are really just dioramas. You can't really play in those spaces because it's either difficult or impossible to move out the acrylic trays without (possibly) destroying everything.

The best setup that comes to mind are those from invincibleoverlord.
A lot of work/investment is required to make those acrylic/plexiglass sheets though...
I personally prefer to show separate floors side-by-side.

I have been day-dreaming about this ever since Nate's cellar / sewer video under a town. https://youtu.be/QHW3UjSdaQU

I have not done it yet other than a small scale test. Someone bought foam to do it, but it was pricey when I contacted them for a 4x6 layout.

With this KS I have wondered about using the Elevation Boxes for solid underground support.

Man, nothing? Has this not been done frequently? I remember seeing it during the KS3 campaign videos...

Using KS1 Dungeon under KS3 City pieces.

I'm wanting to put a single-level dungeon under a cityscape, does anyone have any advice on having dungeon pieces under city pieces? I've tried a few times, in small scale, but it seems unwieldy at a larger scale. Just curious what people's experiences on this have been... thanks!
