Re:Coloseum From 2003
Thank You Feymous, I really enjoy viewing your beautiful scenes.
Here is an oldie and it's map. I always wonder how others keep a record of layouts, I used to draw them on graph paper after the final design. I haven't had the space to build one in years, but hope to soon with all the Caverns coming in a few weeks.
The layout picture is very washed out, but the map looks O.K.
Thought I would toss out this map of a layout, I will eventually post on another thread.

William,
I haven't been on the forums much this past month and then I log on to discover this thread. I don't even know where to start...there's enough DF goodness on these pages to fill 3 or 4 threads
The colosseum is epic, really unique and creative uses of the basic dungeon pieces. Your cavernous sculpt is beautiful and atmospheric, great place for an adventure. Finally, your method for creating water tiles is brilliant. I'm shocked that you got such great results from such a simple technique. I must try that.
Thanks for sharing!!!

Here are two more pictureswith the water effect sheets and large roll shown in background.
Most of the terrain was custom done 13 years ago along with the pictures.

Re:Coloseum From 2003
Thank you Biowizard that means a lot from you.
It's very easy to do. I will post a few pictures showing the effect in several layouts.
I have some letter size sheets of a grid pattern I found somewhere and scaled them to be the right size. They are the grid that looks tiled below, the pdf or jpg was black and white but shaded for texture. I have about a dozen burried in my basement I have to find. Anyway, just get some celophane wrapping paper of blue, red, green or any other color and lay it over the grid sheets. I made up some with a tiny bit of tape holding the corners together so I can just spread them out. As you will notice in some of the larger areas I just did a Sharpie squiggle line on a roough 1" grid and layered green then blue over that. You could do reds, orange, yellow or any combo for slime or acid. Try Joanne Fabric, Michael's, any gift store selling wrapping paper that is see-through. Like I said, It's easy.

Could you tell us precisely how you made the lake? It's beautiful.

Re:Coloseum From 2003
I lied, I found this burried in a deep dark folder. It's the Entry into the large cavern where the large lake and the Castle/Mansion and Coloseum are far beyond.
This is the Tomb/Cave Entry set-up. We got to play some of this back in the day before my probs. The cavern portion past the small lake was nixed because that little lake turned into a huge lake once the story was defined. Anyway, the first three pictures are of the area that was discarded, but I thought I would include for the fun of it. The little lake in pictures 4 through 6 was adjusted beyond lake. The portion before lake (the bottom of picture, closer to camera)was maintained as it is shown. The overall layout was about 13' long and 3' wide (2 doors end to end), but then was shortened ny 3 or 4 feet.
The large lake was played off a small map and the day they found the other side where the Coloseum is, was the last time I gamed with a group. I did do a little DMing with a good friend and his kids a few times after that, but that became to difficult as time went on. Sob Sob, sorry I'll get off that horse now. Io the pictures.

Re:Coloseum From 2003
Here is the last group of pictures of the Castle/Mansion layout. I never finished the final design.
I will be posting more pictures of the Coloseum and Tomb/Cave Entry in the future. That will finish the whole scenario of the part of my world I did finish (or close to it). I didn't want to call the thread by my world name because the coloseum was the highlight at the point I stoped working on it.
A place to feed guests with bar and kitchen behind -
HOT TUB time (nooo) -
Cooks family quarters above -
Another of Entry from above -
The (un)finished design -
Next time will be more of the coloseum (tighter pictures with some minis).
